Our accessibility.

Foodhall is a community run venue. Most of our events are run completely by volunteers, and all are run on either a suggested donation or a “put a bit in the pot” basis, because we don’t want money to be a barrier to access. We don’t have a big income, so aren’t able to make the changes our venue needs to be accessible to all.

However, we want to try our best, so here’s a honest breakdown of the accessibility of our venue. If you have any questions, or ways we can change how we do things to make them more accessible to you or your friends, please get in touch.

Access in and Around the Venue

Our venue is not heated. In the colder months we recommend you wear warm clothes. During our cafe we provide hot drinks all year round.

For most of our cafe days, except those on very cold days, access is from Matilda Street, straight into the cafe on flat ground, over a small bump. This entrance is accessible to our regular motorised wheelchair user.

When the shutters on Matilda Street are down, access is through the small fire door from the garden. This can be reached either by walking up two steps from the Matilda Street pavement, or 1 step from the garden. The door has a step up and a step down.

The main hall has flexible furniture that is regularly moved around. We aim to always leave room for a wheelchair to move around the space, however, volunteers may have to move furniture to achieve this.

The toilets are not wheelchair accessible. They are up 8 stairs. The toilets themselves are in small rooms with no handles.

The nearest accessible toilet is in the Jury’s Inn next door. We find they are usually happy to allow people in to use it.

The kitchen is not wheelchair accessible, it is up a flight of 8 steps. To get to the kitchen you must come through a busy corridor and office that is often a little cramped with various items and materials.

Public Transport

The train station is 10 minutes walk away. It has lifts to ground level.

The nearest bus stops are on Eyre Street, a 3 minute walk away. They are stops CS1 and CS2. Busses, 5, 61, 62, 32, 81, 82, 86, 135 and 135a stop at CS2. Busses, 3, 3a, 4, 4a, 5, 20, 24, 25, 43, 44, 61, 62, X1 Steel Link, X7, and X10 stop at CS1.

Viewing Platforms or Areas

We have no viewing platforms or areas, however, we are able to move furniture around so as to give you a seat with a view of the stage. If you ask a volunteer they will be able to arrange this for you.

Assistance Dogs

Assistance dogs are welcome in our venue, as are all friendly dogs. We have a small number of regular canine visitors.

Water can be provided for dogs at any event, please ask a volunteer and they will sort this out for you.

Dogs may go to the toilet in our car park, provided the waste is picked up and put in our waste bins at the bottom of the car park.


We are unable to offer parking in our own car park to people attending or running events. All our car parking spaces are rented out. However, there is a car park just across the road on Matilda Street with reasonable prices. You can find out more information on their website.

Loading and unloading, picking up, and dropping off can be done from Eyre Lane, where there are 3 steps into the entrance, though the carpark and small entrance.

Personal Assistants come for Free

Entry for our events is on the door. Simply tell the person on the door that you have/are an assistant, and that you do not need to pay.

For our dining events on Wednesdays we pass round a pot for donations. If you are attending in order to assist someone please take this into account when deciding how much you would like to pay for your meal. We ask for a suggested donation of £5-£10

Accessible Toilets

Unfortunately we currently have no accessible toilets. The nearest one is in the Jury’s Inn next door.

Hearing Loop and BSL

We do not currently have a hearing loop.

Unless otherwise stated, we do not provide BSL translations

Strobe Lighting

Unless otherwise stated, we do not use strobe lighting at any of our events.
